In the materials of HI archive is preserved the correspondence between HI officials and the founder of modern biology, zoologist and philosopher Jakob von Uexküll (1864-1944). J. J. von Uexküll was born in the territory of later Estonia, but his mother Sophie von Hahn came from Kurzeme. In the middle of 1920’s he undertook the institution at the University of Hamburg that under his leadership transformed to the Environmental Research Institute (Institut für Umweltforschung). J. J. von Uexküll used to be a member of Nature researchers circle in Riga, he also took part in HI study and research work. Within HeInRi project, particular attention will be paid to the natural scientific (the concept of environment) and cultural politic (German Baltics, science and nation) matters that are mentioned in the correspondence between HI and von Uexküll.
